NEEDS STATEMENT

Diabetic neuropathy and lower extremity vascular disease are conditions associated with considerable morbidity among persons with diabetes mellitus. With the ever-increasing numbers of newly diagnosed diabetic patients, and new information on the pathogenesis and treatment of these conditions, physicians should be aware of  important potential new approaches to management of diabetics with these comorbid conditions.


LEARNING OBJECTIVES

At the end of this activity, the participant should be able to:

  1. Address the question of whether nerve compression is a factor in common lower extremity diabetic neuropathy.

  2. Review clinical characteristics and new experimental understanding of diabetic neuropathy.

  3. Discuss approaches to management of painful diabetic neuropathy.

  4. Describe basic aspects of peripheral artery disease in diabetic patients.

  5. Identify abnormalities in wound healing associated with diabetes and approaches to their management.

 

TARGET AUDIENCE:  Physicians treating persons with diabetes mellitus.

After reading the article in the journal and reflecting on the information presented, participants may register to complete the exam and course evaluation online. 

There are 9 multiple choice questions presented in this course.  A minimum grade of 75% (7 correct answers) must be achieved in order to obtain CME credit.

This page will contain your final grade and allow you to immediately view/print your Certificate if you have achieved the minimum passing score.
